Raw Water Treatment
Surface water contains varying proportions of suspended matter – both settleable solids, particles large enough to settle quiescently, and dispersed solids, particles which will not readily settle which maybe colloidal. The colloidal matter encountered in raw water consists of clay, silica, colour, iron, organics such as dead aquatic plants and aquatic organisms etc. With continuous deteriorating raw water quality and stringent potable water regulations, there are always challenges in treatment of raw water. The separation of the suspended solids from water whenever their natural subsidence rates are too slow to provide effective clarification, the process of coagulation and flocculation is applied.
